"We have been insensitive"
In regard to the reactions to last week’s episode of Svenska Nyheter (Swedish News) I would like to state the following:
Svenska Nyheter is a satire program which comments on current events. Even though the satirical form allows for an extended acceptable level of what may be said, everything we do should also be defendable in regard to SVT’s general principles and regulations for programming.
Our intention with last week’s debated episode was anti-racist. We wanted to address an anomaly in Sweden where racist comments and actions towards Chinese people are for some reason often allowed to pass by without comment. It is my opinion that the program was in accordance with the regulations that SVT has to follow. I am open to the fact that there may be other opinions and that the Swedish Press and Broadcast Authority might rule otherwise.
When it comes to the segment at the very end of the program (the one that was published on Youku), we were insensitive to how it would be received and we were wrong to edit it out of its context.
For this reason, I offer my sincere apology to the individuals who have been offended by our segment.
It is unfortunate when good intentions are lost along the way. We will continue to comment and shine a light on our world with funny and sharp satire as we have done in the 11 episodes and over 60 topics that we have aired so far.

Background: Svenska nyheter's segment on China
During the last few days we have received numerous reactions to the latest episode of ”Svenska nyheter”(”Swedish news”). The ambition of the show is to comment on current affairs by using satire and humour.
Our intention with the part of the show covering ”sinophobia” was to follow up on the official Chinese reaction to the ”Hostel”-incident, while at the same time cover the fact that sinophobia hasn't gained the same amount of attention as other forms of racism in Sweden.
The purpose of the short segment published on Youku was to gather Chinese reactions. This was a mistake, as the entirety of our message and ambition was then lost. We recognize that this may have been an insult, for which we are truly sorry.
In order to clarify our anti-racist ambition, the entire segment is available with English subtitles here:
